Of Utmost Importance

So I started a Bible study with a good friend.  Both of us are tired of the monotonous Bible studies that we have attended in the past.  Not a lot of real learning going on, mostly women talking about feelings and lot's of catch phrases like "Isn't God great", or "Wow, look what God can do".  After the study was over, you really didn't know much more than when you started.  Sometimes it seemed that a good study was gauged by how emotional everyone got.  We wanted to do a book of the Bible and really learn.  So we chose a Moody Bible Institute distance learning course.   I graduated from Moody and loved every minute of it while I was there.  I learned so much so I felt it was a safe bet to do one of their distance classes.  We decided upon Daniel and hope to move into Revelation and Ezekiel.  Kind of a phrophetic/end times sweep.  Some people asked us what book we were going to do.  When we mentioned Daniel we heard every time, "oh, that's a difficult book, are you sure you can do that" or "maybe you should try something easier".  This astounds me every time I hear it.  Why do Christians say parts of God's Word are too difficult.  Why do they feel they are incapable of understanding?  As a saved person, the Holy Spirit is living in you and He is the one who gives you wisdom and understanding.  To say that something is too difficult or that someone is incapable of understanding puts a limit on the power of the Holy Spirit.  Do we really believe that???  I am aware that there are some mysteries of God that we will never understand fully until heaven, but do we believe we serve a God who actually wants to make it difficult to understand Him?  Why would He see fit to write a book for us only to make it impossible for us to understand it?  Maybe this is why so many Bible studies stay on the emotional side of the topic and never get into the real truth of it.
I can tell you that my friend Jennifer and I are on our 3rd chapter of Daniel and we have learned sooooo much already!  We have gained insight into things about Daniel that we never realized.  We have been challenged to dig deeper and learn more about the Bible in other areas.  We are fascinated!  This we attribute entirely to the Holy Spirit and His ability to impart wisdom and understanding.  How wonderful that we serve a God who sees fit to have us understand His Word and encourages us to go further.  I encourage you to get out your Bible and dig deeper.  Truly seek to understand God's Word and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and give you wisdom.  He will not let you down!
